Why Cake?

Though I do love cake and may go a little pouty on you if a celebration doesn’t include one, it’s not my sweet tooth that drew me into cake decorating.

For me, cake = love.

Now, that may seem like a terribly unhealthy relationship with a dessert I may need counseling to resolve, but here’s why I developed a passion for this particular baked good:

  • Some of my earliest memories are of my mom decorating special cakes for our birthdays. I always knew those cakes meant I was loved and cherished because of all the time and effort that went into their creation.  So my love association with cake began as soon as I could blow out a birthday candle.

  • Cake declares something special is happening and creates happy memories. We may not remember what food was served at a party, but we do remember a gorgeous cake with our name written on it.
  • Cake takes time and care to coordinate, whether you special order it at bakery, whip up a Betty Crocker mix with canned frosting, or spend hours making a delicately decorated masterpiece.  When we make time to present someone with a special dessert, we are honoring them and showing them they have value and worth.
  • Cake decorating has helped me develop a creative ability I didn’t even realize I had until a few years ago.  The act of baking and creating beauty, magic, or whimsy through sugar is extremely cathartic for me.  Baking that awakens my senses and fills me with a sense of purpose and vigor for life. I am truly a huge cake geek.

Here’s some of the cake creations I have made over the past few years and many more to come. Visit this page often to see what I’ve been up to!
